Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre – Aquatic Facilities
The Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre (TRAC) is situated in the Northern NSW township of Murwillumbah, on the QLD and NSW border. The Tweed regional aquatic centre was a Design and Construct contract which was required to run under a fast tracked delivery system. The time frame for both design and construction was achieved in under 15 months.
The community character of Murwillumbah is very unique and the architecture of TRAC was to be a reflection of and to be identified as a part of the Murwillumbah region. The architecture of TRAC was designed to complement and blend in with the existing local streetscape, through the architectural building lines, space formation, master planning and the material selection and finishes.
The concept design phase did pull inspiration from the stunning formations of Mt Warning and the clean lines of the township’s early architecture. The internal architectural intent was to create a clean crisp, aquatic environment, with playful tones, balancing an atmosphere for both the families and the sporting elite that would use the new facilities.
